At Bear Tide, we combine art and skill, and a whole lot of passion to grow our oysters.

We start with premium seed, using only hatcheries with long, proven track records of healthy clean oysters. We implement a range of grow methods and topography to create different flavor patterns across a variety of sizes and shapes.

Our flats vary in topography from level and exposed, to sloped and deeper, to allow for dramatic water flow over the oysters. And we give them room to grow – up to 50% more room than most East Coast farms.

Under these carefully cultivated and sustainable conditions, oysters from Bear Tide develop strong shells, deep cups, nice hinges, beautiful shapes, and delicious flavor profiles ranging from light & crisp to rich & hearty.

We meticulously screen, sort, and grade our oysters along their path to development, giving them the special care they require, ultimately, to complement the chef’s craft. We do what it takes to ensure consistency from season to season, year to year.

It’s minutes from the water to our 7,500 sq ft wholesale facility, which is designed specifically to support delivery through all seasons – from sun to squall to winter storm.

Grow method:
Cultivated from seeds in heavy tidal flow areas with turbulent waters. Grown utilizing open trays and eventually left to mature on the ocean floor, these select oysters feature large unique deep-cup shells, a meaty, robust composition in a size and shape ideal for the oyster connoisseur served in the half shell or cooked to perfection.
